ESX, one of KZ’s standout successes, has been revisited for the company’s 10th anniversary with a new special edition. Maintaining its signature affordability, which is a hallmark of KZ products, the latest ESX presents an enticing value proposition that outperforms other earphones in its market segment. For this special edition, KZ opted for something unique, featuring a single 12mm diameter copper-rim dynamic driver with a 5-micron thick LCD liquid crystal diaphragm, ultra-thin coil wire, and a high-flux magnet—prioritizing raw performance over the complexity of multiple driver crossovers. The design includes an air guide with a balance hole in front of the driver, along with a balanced back-vented cavity, ensuring controlled airflow and resonance. With an impedance of 22Ω and a sensitivity of 111dB, these earphones deliver rich bass, clear high and mid frequencies, and an energy that’s unmatched in this price range.
The premium cable resists electromagnetic interference, allowing for a lower noise floor and more detail to reach the ESX. Additionally, using the 4.4mm Pentaconn input ensures 100% channel separation, which widens the soundstage and further restores details. For compatibility, the cable also features interchangeable plugs, allowing the attachment of 3.5mm or 2.2mm plug to the end as well. Braided cables are also much more durable and tangle-resistant than standard cables.
The FiiO KA13 contains a fantastic DAC and amplifier, processing any amount of high-resolution inputs, and pushing them through to your headphones with up to 550mW of power, easily driving any type of headphones, including the ESX. While the full output will never be necessary on the ESX, that extra capability provides an effortless sound at reasonable volumes.
The premium black ear tips increase noise isolation and are less susceptible to falling out of your ears on their own. At MX RAY we have sworn by these tips for any and all earphones for years, and now we are extending that to you. While we still include the standard ear tips that come with the ESX, we recommend you use the premium ones for the best experience.
The JCally TC30 PRO cable is a very convenient solution for using your ESX on-the-go, as it includes a high quality microphone and control buttons. The DAC and amplifier is built into the USB-C plug, making it very compact.
